Greetings:
How can you get your dog to retrieve?

Certainly, if this is your only issue with your dogs, you are way ahead of most dog owners.

Not all dogs like to retrieve. You can throw the ball or stick and maybe they'll grab it -- but then they drop it and look at you like you're crazy.

Actually they don't know what to do with it and think you're the idiot for throwing it.

In these cases, the dog actually does see the ball -- they just choose to not chase it.

In other cases, especially with a rescue or trained dog, they may have been taught a different command, or taught not to retrieve at all.

You can teach a dog a forced retrieve, but unless you do that, they most likely will never learn this on their own.

Force breaking a dog to retrieve is not easy. And the answer may simply be your what you answer to this question:
"How important is it to YOU that your dog retrieve?

Answer this question honestly. Is it an exercise issue? If so, there are dozens of ways to ensure proper exercise amd conditioning.

A good brisk walk with an alert, obeident, non-pulling and non-tugging dog at the end of the leash may be the best answer.
