Helping Your Dog Learn In Every Situation
I am not a fan of free-for-all, off-leash dog parks. I realize many of my customers are. My main
reason is at most off-leash parks, dogs are not in a learning atmosphere.
However, if you frequent dog parks, use that time for teaching time. (If your dog can learn while
amidst the confusion of a dog park, he/she can learn anywhere.)
At a dog park, remember, if your dog is off-leash and runs away, possibly into traffic, it is your
fault because you did not have control. That may sound harsh - but it happens more often that you'd like to imagine.
How many of you feel your dog is well trained enough to handle anything that comes his/her
way?
What about the OTHER person's dog? That may be a bigger problem!
In The Allison Method of Dog Training, we use a simple pinch collar and a cat leash to show you how to
easily control your dog -- whatever the scenario.
Now imagine, you are at the dog park -- it is chaos - say 20 dogs going crazy.
But your dog is in a down position, totally ignoring the madness -- instead paying total attention to
you -- and awaiting your next command.
It's an amazing thing to see.
A friend of mine (his dog is a Allison Method dog) was walking through a Wisconsin dog park the other
day. His dog was on leash. His neighbors dog (a lab) was not.
The lab kicked up three deer and was off.
This friend of mine downed his German Shepherd immediately. The GS did not run away.
My friend and his German Shepherd then spent the next 45 minutes trying to track the lab (and
found him some distance away).
Training in every situation -- so your dog and you are ready for anything.
That's what we teach in The Allison Method Of Training.
